If you are the caregiver to a loved one with special needs, then you probably have felt the weight of all the responsibilities that come with it. And if you find yourself shaking your head in agreement, please know that you are not alone.
For almost 12 years, Nic Kuck has been deeply involved in the special needs community—as a special education teacher, a coach with Special Olympics, a leader in special needs ministry, and a state-certified trainer. With a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a genuine passion for her students, clients, families, and community, Nic was well-equipped to navigate the challenges that came her way. But little did she know those years of dedication were preparing her heart and home for her most personal role yet: becoming a special needs mama herself.
After two years of testing and appointments, and thousands upon thousands of dollars, Nic’s oldest daughter finally received a diagnosis. What followed was a massive, overwhelming process of untangling the complexities of benefits, therapies, educational plans, insurances, and more. The first year was an exhausting whirlwind, and in many ways, the journey continued. About eight months into that first year, Nic attended a Special Needs Planning presentation. As she listened, overwhelmed, she couldn’t help but wonder how this was the first time she had heard any of this information. If someone with 12 years of immersive experience in the special needs community was just learning about these critical resources, how were other families supposed to navigate this labyrinth of information?
By the time she left that meeting, the idea for Eminent Special Needs Planning was already in its planning stages. Two months later, Nic was enrolled in all the necessary courses to become certified by the Arizona Supreme Court. Her mission was clear: to educate, envision with, and empower families in all aspects of special needs planning.
Eminent Special Needs Planning exists to help families confidently navigate the complexities of government benefits, special needs trusts, budget/need projections, and lifestyle planning. Nic’s personal goal is to go far beyond the technicalities, providing opportunities for intentionality and empathy as “Your Special Needs Ally.”
